WEEKEND WORKSHOP: Angelique Tassistro:
The Business of Art and Designing Surface and a Ceramic Product

Saturday February 4 & Sunday 5 2012

A Baton Rouge native and LSU alumni, Angelique now lives in Ashville, North Carolinawhere she is the artistic force and owner of Fly Coop Studios
http://www.flycoopstudios.com. In her studio is a chalkboard with the words: "Dream, Believe, Love," and "Thoughts become things, so choose the good ones." You can feel these philosophies as you observe and handle her delightful functional creations. Angelique, is no stranger to how to run a ceramic production operation. Every day includes all stages of forming her uniquely designed functional items, from working with clay slabs to carving edges, from glazing to decorative finishing firings. She is a rising star in the ceramic world and was named as one of 2011's emerging national artists in Ceramics Monthly Magazine. Her glazing style is also slated to be the subject of a pictorial spread in an upcoming issue of Clay Times.
Her belief in the magic of creativity, along with her childhood mispronunciation, turned imagination into “magic nation.” Angelique is a ceramic artist who focuses on functional, whimsical pottery with a sculptural approach, always going to that “magic nation” for inspiration.“We create functional pottery with a whimsical nature. Our collection incorporates bright colors and unique patterns. Meant to be used everyday, these pieces can inspire a creative chef, add a little spice to a room, or be used for special occasions.”

Saturday February 4 10-2pm Designing Surface and the Ceramic Product
Angelique will demonstrate her creative “magic nation” process and discuss how she came up with forms and surfaces that could be consistent products. She will focus on the surface and glazing process, including the use of ceramic decals. $90 before January 30, $100 after.
Sunday February 5 11-2pm The Business of Art
Angelique will discuss the practical side of turning your crafting passion in to a business. Having successfully run her own production ceramics studio http://www.flycoopstudios.com, Angelique will share with you her highs and lows of how she continues to make a living in the art world. This seminar is not just about the ceramic world but how anyone can turn their crafting skills into a small business successfully. $70 before January 30, $80 after.
*Sign up for both before January 30 and save $10. $150 for both days.
